Hi. My name is Sarah Bohl. I’m a wife to a wonderful husband, and a mother to two wonderful children. That’s my day job: at-home Mom. In order to have a creative outlet I turned to a passion of mine–interior design. What started out as a hobby turned into a business when several of my friends asked me to decorate their homes. So I put on a tool belt (okay, not really) and started decorating and advising on remodeling projects.
I’m not that kind of decorator. A friend once told me about an unpleasant experience she had with an interior designer. My friend had built a brand-new home and filled it with items that she loved. When searching for a piece of artwork for a wall, she asked a decorator for help. That particular designer proceeded to tell my friend to replace every item she had just filled her home with. Needless to say, my friend did not buy any art from the designer or use her services.
What is a house that is filled with meaningless decor just “picked out” by some decorator? Well, it’s just that—a house. What you want is a home. My mission is to help you make a home–one that is filled with special, heirloom items, or with new items that match your style and personality.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. Along the same lines, my mission is also to incorporate as much green design as you desire. This means that before we go out and buy new furniture, we’ll look to see if we can reuse or refurbish existing furniture. It also means that when we do need to buy new items, I will look for eco-friendly options that suit your needs.
Function over form. While expensive crystal vases are certainly beautiful, I’m not going to suggest them for your home if you have a two-year-old. The functionality of your home is my priority. I live by William Morris’ quote: “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
Simplicity. I am definitely NOT a tchatchke/knick-knack type of person. Just warning you. I will NOT put any kind of fake greenery on top of your cabinets and I HATE clutter.
